Sannes

Sannes is a commune with 177 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Sannes is located in the southeast of the département of Vaucluse and is surrounded by the municipalities of La Motte- d'Aigues, Cabrières- d'Aigues, cucuron and Ansouis. Nearest large city is Pertuis in the south ( 7 km).

In the north of the parish, the mountains of the Luberon rises with the Luberon Regional Nature Park, to which the municipality belongs. South of Sannes is the valley of the Durance.

Traffic

The route Departmental D27 runs on an east-west axis of cucuron coming on towards Gram Bois.

Nearest railway station is the railway station Pertuis, with the obtained subsequent to the cities of Lyon, Marseille and Aix -en- Provence.

History

Sannes was mentioned in 1045 for the first time under the name of Castrum Aciane. The present name is probably of Celtic origin, the word Sagno means " marsh or swamp land." In Provencal, the meaning changed to a kind of reed grass.

In the Middle Ages Sannes belonged to the family of Sabran Ansouis whose claim to power was in 1468 confirmed by a court judgment. In the early 18th century Sannes went on by marriage to the house Saqui de Collobrières. After the French Revolution got back Sannes community status and thus its independence.
