Sivergues

Sivergues is a commune with 45 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse in Provence -Alpes- Côte d' Azur region.

Geography

Sivergues is located in the south of the department of Vaucluse, and is surrounded by the municipalities Buoux, Vaugines, cucuron, Auribeau and Saignon. Apt to the north is the closest major city with five kilometers away.

In the south of the municipality, the mountains of the Grand Luberon rises. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Luberon. The northwestern municipal boundary is formed by the 23 km long river Aigue Brun, which flows west of Cadenet in the Durance.

Traffic

The perched village Sivergues is accessible only from the north- east via the route Departmental D114.

History

Sivergues was a dependent of Saignon fief and became independent in the 14th century. After several major epidemics, the village 1501-1523 was repopulated, especially of eight Waldensian families who settled here. Since then, the history of settlement of Protestants and Catholics place has been influenced primarily religious.

Place name
