Puyvert

Puyvert is a commune with 763 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Puyvert is located in the south of the department of Vaucluse, and is surrounded by the municipalities Lauris, Lourmarin and Cadenet. Nearest large towns are apt in the Northeast ( 14 km) and Pertuis in the east ( 15 km).

In the north of the parish, the mountains of the Luberon rises with the Luberon Regional Nature Park, to which the municipality belongs. In the Luberon arises from the small river Aigue Brun, a little east of the center of the village flows past and to the south flows into the Durance. The Durance also forms the southern boundary of the municipality and the border of the Bouches -du -Rhône.

Traffic

To the south of the community center, the D973 runs on an east-west axis. From her the D943 branches off and leads east of the municipal area over the northern Apt. The D943 is one of the few roads that connect the northern and southern Luberon.

Parallel to the D973 runs the railway line Cheval Blanc Pertuis, but this is no longer open for passenger traffic since 1971.

History

In the district of Lombard two anthropomorphic stelae were found, indicating the spread of Lagozza culture at the end of the Neolithic. In the early Middle Ages, the area to the abbey of Saint- André de Villeneuve- lès -Avignon belonged.   • Dovecot: relic of an old castle from the 14th century, situated on the hill of Jas de Puyvert. The pigeon tower was built in the 18th century and houses a total of 3,000 pigeons nests made ​​of glazed terracotta.
