Ansouis

Ansouis is a commune with 1144 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Vaucluse department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. It belongs to the district of the canton of Apt and Pertuis. It is classified as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ).

Geography

Ansouis located in the southeast of the département of Vaucluse and is surrounded by the municipalities Vaugines, Cadenet, Villelaure, Pertuis, La Tour d' Aigues, Sannes and cucuron. Nearest large city is in the southeastern Pertuis ( 6 km).

In the north of the parish, the mountains of the Luberon rises with the Luberon Regional Nature Park, to which the municipality belongs. South of Ansouis lies the valley of the Durance.

Traffic

In the center there are several routes cross départementales. The D56 north from cucuron Coming runs to the southeast to Pertuis. The D37 crosses the area on the south-west - north-east axis and provides access to the communities Villelaure and Sannes. Head northwest to get on the D135 Cadenet and Lourmarin. In the far east of the D9 Cabrières- d'Aigues Coming clips the community and continues to Pertuis. From it there is a junction of the D135 east towards La Tour- d'Aigues.

Nearest railway station is the railway station Pertuis, with which you have connected to the cities of Lyon, Marseille and Aix -en- Provence.

History

The manor of Ansouis was first mentioned in the 11th century. It was in the year 1193 into the possession of the Sabran family, whose descendants still reside in the castle. Below the castle developed into a settlement, which was surrounded in the 14th century a new city wall. Since the 18th century Ansouis is dominated by agriculture and known for the cultivation of cherries, plums, melons and beets.

  • Castle, former residence of the Sabran family ( 10th century ). Originally built as a castle, rebuilt in the 12th and 13th century as a castle, more conversions in the 15th and 19th centuries. The present building dates from the 17th century. The castle has a French garden.
  • Parish Church of St- Martin ( 13th century).
  • Fortification
  • Musée des Arts et des Métiers du vin. Private Collection in the center of a wine estate. It will be shown in a recently renovated building over 3,000 unique objects. In a 400 m² hall old wine presses can be seen.
  • Musée de Georges Mazoyer extraordinaire. In a vaulted cellar from the 15th century an underwater world was decorated by an artist.
