Borstel, Lower Saxony

Borstel ( Low German: Bössel ) is a municipality in the district of Diepholz in Lower Saxony. It belongs to the Samtgemeinde Siedenburg, which has its administrative headquarters in spots Siedenburg.

Geographical Location

Borstel is located near the natural park Geest and the Natural Park Steinhude approximately midway between Bremen and Minden, directly on the B 214 between Sulingen and Nienburg / Weser.

History

For the first time the church was mentioned in records in 1302.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the municipalities Bockhop, camping and boiling were incorporated.

Culture and sights

  • The Dutch windmill Reina Roxana of 1864 is no longer practiced today, but it is still a widely visible landmark of Borstel.
  • The 1699 St. Nicolai church is first mentioned as a single-nave late Romanesque hall church is the oldest building still standing Borstels.
