Brett MacLean

Brett MacLean ( born December 24, 1988 in London, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who graduated between 2010 and 2011 a total of 18 games for the Phoenix Coyotes and the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. In 2012, he had to quit due to a heart defect at the age of 23 years of his career.

Career

Brett MacLean was in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ) selected in 2004 in the first round at a total eleventh position of the Erie Otters. Then MacLean joined at the age of 15 years in the Canadian Junior Football League and graduated in 2004 OHL / 05 season 68 games for the Otters, thereby pass him 23 points scorer. In the following season, the striker after 13 games for the Erie Otters, together with Eric Regan and two two- round draft picks for the OHL Priority Selection in 2006 and 2007 transferred to league rivals Oshawa Generals, the Otters received in return the players Adam Berti and Bret Nasby.

In the following two and a half seasons, the right-handed shooter developed into a strong offensive player for the Generals. In the season 2006/ 07 he was behind John Tavares is the second best scorer of the team in the following season he was with 61 goals and a total of 119 scorer points in 61 completed games best points scorer of his team, and second most successful scorer of the entire Ontario Hockey League. NHL Entry Draft 2007 MacLean was selected in the second round to 32nd position of the Phoenix Coyotes, where he signed a contract started on April 28, 2008. A little later he was sent by the Coyotes to their farm team San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League ( AHL ). In the following three seasons, he was at 13 inserts for the Coyotes of the National Hockey League ( NHL), the rest of the time he spent at the Rampage in the AHL. The winger provided during this period good offensive performance, missed his team but every year the AHL playoffs.

In July 2011, MacLean signed a new one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. On 5 October 2011, he was obliged by the Waiver list of the Winnipeg Jets. After five appearances for his new team in the National Hockey League, where he scored two assists, he was again placed on the waiver, where he again committed by the Phoenix Coyotes and, to their new AHL farm team, the Portland Pirates was sent.

On July 2, 2012 Brett MacLean suffered a heart attack during a hockey game in Owen Sound. After an immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation MacLean was admitted to a local hospital. He was then flown to the intensive care unit of the University Hospital of the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. As a result, Brett MacLean had to end his playing career at the age of 23 years.
