Cadillac Series 355

Cadillac Series 355 (1931)

The Cadillac Series 355 is built from October 1930 until the end of 1933 model of the U.S. car manufacturer Cadillac.

Model history

In October 1930 Cadillac presented as a successor to the 353 Series the Series 355, again with a V8 engine.

From model year 1930, the eight-cylinder Cadillac was formed after the appearance of the Cadillac V-16, only the entry-level model of the brand. From 1931 came with the Series 370 between even a model with a V12 engine added.

Technically, the 355 Series was based on the Series 353; However, the wheelbase was shortened to 340.4 cm. Changes consisted mainly of the bodies, as provided Fisher 6 different closed two-and four -door and Fleetwood 7 open and closed structures. The escalating range of Fleetwood Special bodies, as had been the custom in the predecessor, there was no longer for the eight-cylinder. In addition, an ambulance and a hearse were on a wheelbase of 386.1 cm still available.

1932 ( Series 355- B ) received 355 of a new front end with smaller headlights and a lower roof. The frame was modified to improve the synchronization of the transmission and the motor with new carburetor and intake manifolds revised to 115 hp. In the previous year wheelbase of 134 inches ( 340.4 cm), there were only four models with Fisher Body ( Roadster, Coupe, Cabriolet and standard sedan ). Was reintroduced the longer wheelbase (140 Zoll/355, 6 cm) of the predecessor 353, building on the 9 bodies of Fisher and 8 more Fleetwood, from the five-seater coupe to the seven-seat Town Cabriolet. The wheelbase of the special structures versions grew by 10 to 396.2 cm.

At the 1933 models (Series 355- C) was established in 1929 by Harley Earl Art and Colour Section at General Motors, the first Design department of the auto industry, its first fruits. The trend away from purely functional and towards the Effektheischenden came here for the first time revealed, seen as the bulkier provided with decorative beading bumpers and on the side pulled down, also ornamented front fenders. Leading the way included the introduction of opening windows for draft-free interior ventilation. Despite lowered prices sales of the Cadillac models were greatly decreased, a consequence of the terrible economic crisis that the country (and the world ) was recorded according to the New York stock market crash in the fall of 1929. The offer continues Fisher and Fleetwood models were on the two different wheelbases.

In January 1934, the 355 was replaced by the Series 10/20/30; until then, a total of 15,517 pieces were created by the Series 355.
