Cadillac Series 62

Cadillac Series 62 Convertible ( 1941)

The Cadillac Series 62 was a 1940 to 1964 by the U.S. automobile manufacturers offered Cadillac model.

Model history

In model year 1940, the Cadillac range was divided into types Series 60S ( Sixty Special), Series 62 and Series 75

The Series 62 replaced it in 1939 offered the Series 61 as cheapest Cadillac model. It was powered by the adopted unchanged from the previous 5.7-liter V8 with side valves and 135 hp. Offered were two-door coupes and convertibles and a five-seater Touring Sedan as well as a four-door convertible. The wheelbase of the 62 was 327.6 cm ( 7.6 cm compared to Series 61 of the previous year ).

From model year 1941 witnessed the old Series 61 a comeback, because they have now served as a substitute for the set sister brand LaSalle, which had offered 1927-1940 Cadillac cheaper under - line models of the upper middle class. The 62 moved thereby higher in the Cadillac hierarchy by one level.

1941 strengthened the 5.7-liter V8 to 150 hp, in the condensed model year 1942 accounted for the four-door convertible. The Series 62 belonged to the C- platform family of General Motors and was thus related to different models of Oldsmobile and Buick, while the 61 was based on the shorter B platform of the Group.

As Cadillac resumed after the war ended in May 1946, production again, there was also the 62 in unaltered form again. For the model year 1948 was the 62, like all Cadillacs, a new body with the first tail fin approaches; Wheelbase and dimensions were now identical to the entry level 61, so that the 62 represented from now on only a better-equipped 61. The model program included further club coupe, convertible and sedan, powered by the 5.7-liter. This model was replaced from 1949 by a new 5.4 - liter V8 with overhead valves (160 hp).

For the model year 1950 appeared as part of the series 62, the Coupe de Ville with pillar -less hardtop coupé body. 1952, the performance of the 5.4 -liter V8 grew to 190 in 1953 to 210 and 1954 to 230 hp. Starting in 1956, the Sedan de Ville, the program of the series added 62 hardtop sedan introduced in 1953, luxury convertible Cadillac Eldorado appeared in 1955 along with its coupe version officially counted in the first years also for the 62 family. 1955, the engine power is further increased to 250 hp. 1956, the engine was enlarged to six liters ( 285 hp, 1957: 300, 1957: 310 hp). In 1958, in addition to the regular 62 sedan a "Extended Deck " version with just under 25 cm long tail into the program. From model year 1959, the De Ville and Eldorado models from the 62 series were officially outsourced and managed as a separate model series ( internally Series 6300 and Series called 6400). In 1959, a larger 6.4 -liter V8 also found in all models use ( in 62 with 325 hp). The longer Extended deck variant was eliminated again after a year, but the 62 sedan from 1959 to 1964 with four or six side windows and each other roofline was offered. These joined in model year 1962, a Town Sedan four- door model with almost 20 cm shorter rear end. In the last model year of 62, in 1964, accounted for the convertible.

From model year 1965, the Series 62 was replaced by the Cadillac Calais.

From 1940 to 1964 a total of nearly 1.39 million copies of the 62 developed ( to 1953-1958 a total of 18,257 Eldorado models).
