Cadiz, Negros Occidental

Cadiz City is the second largest city in the province of Negros Occidental, in the Philippines. According to the census of 1 May 2010, the city has a population of 151,500 inhabitants, with increasing tendency. The town lies at the mouth of the river Cadiz in the Visayan Sea and 65 kilometers north of the provincial capital, Bacolod City.

Another main source of income is fishing and the sale of seafood. Three kilometers off the coast of Cadiz is the island Lakawon, a popular leisure island of the local population.

Socio-economic conditions

Cadiz is the leading sugar producer in the region. The fishing and fish processing industry are the main occupation for the population on the coast. 58% ( 86 724 people ) in Cadiz living from fishing. Around 17,014 households are directly or indirectly dependent on fishing. In the village there is a campus of the Philippine Normal University.
