Civitaquana

Civitaquana is a municipality with 1297 inhabitants and is located near Brittoli and Vicoli in the province of Pescara.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Androna, Bauglione, Colle del Popolo, Scurcola Colle, Colle Vertiere, piano Scarpara, Salaiano, Solagne and Vicenne.

Borders the following municipalities: Brittoli, Catignano, Civitella Casanova, Cugnoli, Loreto Aprutino, Pietranico and Vicoli.

History

In the year 883 the village was first mentioned as Civitaquana Civitas Qana in the Chronicle of Casauria. Later, the village in Civitas Cana ( 1194) and Civitas Aquana ( 1309) has been renamed. The parish church and the bell tower were built in the 12th and 15th centuries.

Specialty

In the surroundings of the village vines of Montepulciano are grown for the DOC wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
