Villa Celiera

Villa Celiera is a municipality with 733 inhabitants and is located near Civitella Casanova and Montebello di Bertona in the province of Pescara.

Geography

The municipality covers about 12.6 km ².

Among the districts ( fractions) include Casanova, Pietra Rossa, San Sebastiano, Traino and Santa Maria.

Borders the following municipalities: Carpineto della Nora, Castel del Monte, Civitella Casanova, Farindola and Montebello di Bertona.

History

The village was founded around the year 1000 and belonged to the Abbey of Santa Maria Casanova. In the 14th century the village was first mentioned as Castrum Celeriae.

The economy of Villa Celiera based on agriculture (potatoes, vegetables and cereals) and the breeding of cattle and sheep.

Specialty

In the surroundings of the village vines of Montepulciano are grown for the DOC wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
