Coat of arms of Curaçao

Curaçao is the largest island of the former Netherlands Antilles and forms since October 10, 2010 an autonomous country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The coat of arms of Curaçao is cleaved with a central shield and attached crown of a marquis, which expresses the connection with the Dutch royal family.

Description: In the split- crest floats in silver on blue with wave cut split increased zweimastiges a sign foot sailing vessel with two square sails on each and a foresail. At the rear mast blowing a Dutch flag. Back in silver on green sign foot an orange-colored fruit -bearing bitter orange tree. The heart of Amsterdam's coat of arms is the shield on: In red a black pole with three Flanchis. About the shield a Marquiskrone.

Symbolism: On the ( heraldic ) right-hand side is an old sailing ship on the waves of the sea with the Dutch flag on the mast as a symbol for the Dutch West India Company (WIC ), on the island worked since 1634 and founded a colony. In the center the emblem of the city of Amsterdam, the city is once bought the island from the WIC and Fort Amsterdam was built in Willemstad. On the left, a fruit -bearing tree is bitter orange (Citrus aurantium ). The color orange stands for the Oranje House, the bitter orange is one of the components of the produced on the island of blue Curacao liqueur.
