Coconut Creek is a city in Broward County in the U.S. state of Florida with 52 909 inhabitants ( 2010). The metropolitan area has a size of 30.5 km ².

Geography

Coconut Creek is located about 15 km north of Fort Lauderdale and 45 km north of Miami. Adjacent municipalities are Parkland, Coral Springs, Margate, Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 52 909 inhabitants distributed to 22,754 households. The population density was 1769.5 inh. / Km ². 75.3 % of the population were white, 13.7% African American, 0.1% Native American and 3.8 % Asian Americans. 4.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 3.0% of different ethnicities. 20.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 32.6 % of all households lived in 29.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 59.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.32 persons and the average family size is 2.97 people.

23.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.0% were 20-39 years old, 27.3 % were 40-59 years old and 23.1 % were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40.3 years. 46.6 % of the population were male and 53.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 50,990, while 8.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 79.23 % of the population spoke Spanish 11.18% and 9.59% had a different mother tongue.

Religion

In Coconut Creek, there are 10 different churches from three different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches, the Catholic Church is most strongly represented at three churches. There are two no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Traffic

The metropolitan area is crossed or affected by Florida 's Turnpike, from U.S. Highway 441 as well as the Florida State Roads 7, 810, 814, 834 and 869 ( Sawgrass Expressway toll road). The nearest airports are the Pompano Beach Airpark (national ) and the Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood International Airport.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 201 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were seven rapes, 29 robberies, 53 injuries, 283 burglaries, 1,038 thefts and 112 car thefts.
