Hillsboro Beach is a town in Broward County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,875 inhabitants ( 2010). The geographic coordinates are: 26.29 ° North, 80.08 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 4.2 km ².

Geography

Hillsboro Beach is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean, about 10 km north of Fort Lauderdale and 50 km north of Miami. The city borders on the municipalities Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point and Pompano Beach. Through the city runs the Florida State Road A1A.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,875 inhabitants distributed to 2,224 households. The population density was 1704.5 inh. / Km ². 97.1 % of the population were white, 0.4% African American, 0.1% Native American and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 1.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 0.9 % of various ethnicities. 5.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 66.4 % of all households lived in 3.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 50.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.66 persons and the average family size is 2.14 people.

3.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 7.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.5% were 40-59 years old and 67.9 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 67 years. 46.9 % of the population were male and 53.1 % female.

The average annual income was $ 67,109, while 7.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 89.94 % of the population spoke French 4.04% and 6.02% had a different mother tongue.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 116 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There were two robberies, one assault, six burglaries, 31 thefts and car theft.
