Colorado wine

Viticulture in Colorado called viticulture in the U.S. state of Colorado. According to U.S. law, each state and each county is a protected designation of origin by definition and does not need to be recognized by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as such.

Location

Colorado is traversed in the central and western part of the state of the mountain ranges of the Southern Rocky Mountains, of which the San Juan Mountains in the southwest, the Sawatchkette in the center and the two eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains, front and Sangre de Cristo Range, among the most important mountain ranges. The vineyards lie at altitudes of Colorado from 1200 to 1950 m and are thus among the world's highest. In Colorado there are warm, sometimes hot summers and cold, snowy winters. In particular, the temperature differences between day and night are sometimes extreme and extend the growing cycle of the vines. So it can be quite cold in the summer, despite the high daily temperatures at night. The rainfall ( 400-500 mm per year ) are distributed over the whole year, while the summer is slightly wetter.
