Oklahoma wine

Viticulture in Oklahoma called viticulture in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. According to U.S. law, each state and each county is a protected designation of origin by definition and does not need to be recognized by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as such.

Until the early 1920s the vineyard was a significant factor in the agriculture of the state. However, known under the name Dust Bowl devastating sandstorms and the alcohol prohibition brought the wine to a complete standstill.

Today, Oklahoma once again has nearly 40 wineries. A majority of the goods are in the north -east of the state. There the Ozark Mountain AVA is the only American Viticultural Area defined.
