Dallas Smith

Dallas Earl Smith ( born October 10, 1941 in Hamiota, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player (defender) who played from 1959 to 1978 for the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers of the National Hockey League.

Career

After several years with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in the Boston Bruins picked him for the season 1959/60 for five games in the NHL. After spending the following year complete with the Bruins, he played the next seasons with the Pittsburgh Hornets of the American Hockey League as well as with the Portland Buckaroos and the San Francisco Seals of the Western Hockey League.

From the 1965/66 season Smith returned to operations in Boston, but also played in the Central Professional Hockey League with the Oklahoma City Blazers. Only when the NHL was expanded to include six additional teams he managed in the 1967/68 season the breakthrough. This year for the first time plus / minus rating was introduced, which he led with 33. Smith played in a row with the young attack-minded Bobby Orr and took over the defensive duties of defending duo.

From 1971 to 1974 he played four times in a row during the NHL All-Star Game. After the 1976/77 season, he announced his retirement, but his former teammate Phil Esposito still persuaded him to play one year for the New York Rangers. With his performance in New York but he was not satisfied and regretted his return. After the end of the season he hung up his skates at the final nail.
