Dharmapuri district

The district Dharmapuri (Tamil: தர்மபுரி மாவட்டம் ) is a district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Administrative center is the eponymous town of Dharmapuri.

Geography

The district Dharmapuri is located in the northern inland areas of Tamil Nadu and has an area of ​​4,527 square kilometers. Neighboring districts are in the north Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai in the east, Viluppuram in the Southeast, Salem in the south and Chamarajanagar in the West. History

The area of present-day Mysore district came at the end of the Third Mysore War under British rule. The British annexed the area as part of the district of Salem in the Province of Madras.
