Dwight Freeney ( born February 19, 1980 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American professional American football player at the position of the defensive ends. He plays for the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League ( NFL).

Career

Freeney began his football career at Syracuse University. There he established the school record of 17.5 Sacks in his last season. In total he made 34 Sacks and thus took second place in the rankings.

Dwight Freeney was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL Draft 2002. He put in his first season on a record with nine forced fumbles. This was no rookie before. Two years later, in the 2004 season, he succeeded with 16 Sacks the most in the NFL.

In 2007, when his rookie contract expired extended the Colts Freeneys long term contract and traded it for a total of 72 million U.S. dollars. He was the highest paid player in the NFL Defense. The following year, he was replaced by Jared Allen as the most expensive defender.
