Ehingen am Ries

Ehingen am Ries ( officially Ehingen a.Ries ) is a municipality in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries and a member of the administrative community Oettingen in Bayern.

Geography

The village lies on the edge of the Nordlinger Ries and belongs to the planning region of Augsburg.

There are the districts Belzheim and Ehingen am Ries.

History

Ehingen am Ries arose from a Alemannic foundation and belonged to the principality of Oettingen. About half of the village (as well as the hamlet Erlbach ) belonged to the Protestant line of this house and therefore took in 1539 to the new faith. In addition to the other half of the village and the hamlet Niederhofen remained with the Catholic faith. Since the Reformation, the parish church of Ehingen is an interdenominational church - in addition Illschwang in der Oberpfalz one of the few in Bavaria. With the Act of Confederation in 1806 the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria.

The first written mention of Belzheim took place in 1053 as Villa Belle home. The place belonged to the time of the Old Kingdom almost exclusively to the Teutonic Order.
