Feuerthalen is a municipality in the district of Andelfingen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. To the municipality belongs to the place long meadows.

Geography

Feuerthalen is north of the heavily wooded Cholfirsts in a river landscape formed by the Rhine in addition to the Office of the District Andelfingen right on the river bank opposite the town of Schaffhausen, with which it is connected by a road bridge. From the community area are 16.1% agriculture, 43.8 % is covered by forest, 10.4% is traffic area and 28.1% in urban area and 1.6% are waters.

History

The first of the two villages long meadows was mentioned as Langewisa documented in 876, then handed the Rheinauer Abt Wolvene the lands to the Earl Gozbert. In the 10th century the estate passed to the diocese of Constance.

The first mention of Feuerthalen was in 1318 as Furtal at the Rine. The name is derived from the ford which existed in the Middle Ages. Since 1528 Feuerthalen has the right to hold markets.

On April 13, 1799, built by Hans Ulrich Grubenmann in the years 1754 to 1756, burned down covered bridge over the Rhine by the troops of Napoleon Bonaparte. In the course of the former event for 14 months, a 10 000 men was stationed strong French contingent in Feuerthalen.
