Flag of Niue

The flag of Niue is the only British flag type with a yellow background cloth. The gold - yellow represents " the sunshine on Niue and the warm feelings of the population Niue towards New Zealand and its inhabitants ."

The Union Jack in the upper canton indicates the island's past as a British protectorate. The four small yellow stars represent the Southern Cross and the New Zealand government under whose administration the island fell from 1901, as well as the good and close relations with this country. The big yellow star on the blue disc, is the self-governing status of each island, which is located alone in the deep blue sea.

The flag was officially adopted in 1975.
