Geographical location

The municipality is located in Upper Franconia Bamberg south of the lower reaches of the roughening Ebrach on the eastern foothills of the Steigerwald.

Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise beginning ): Stegaurach Pettstadt, Hirschaid, Hochstadt an der Aisch ( district of Erlangen - Hochstadt, Middle Franconia ), Pommersfelden and Burgebrach.

History

Frensdorf probably written in the period between the years 750 and 900 (so-called Frankish conquest ) and was first mentioned in documents in 1139. The counts of Abenberg made ​​in the 12th century Frensdorf the administrative center of their possessions in the Bamberg area. They were like them, belonged in 1190 following the Counts of Andechs- Meranien governors of the Bishopric of Bamberg whose possession Frensdorf to the Imperial Diet of 1803. Coat of arms

Blazon: " The shield is divided by blue and gold; front ( as seen from the viewer left) above the other two border lions, rear of St John in black fur robe, a black cross bar holding in his right hand at his feet a black lamb. "

The front half of the shield is the coat of arms of the Counts of Abenberg again. Saint John is attested as a patron of the parish in the 14th century. Breweries

In the town there are the Frensdorf Büttner brewery in Untergreuth and the Müller brewery in Reundorf. The Barnikel brewery in Herrnsdorf put the brewing operation in 2012.
