Fulda (district)

The Fulda district is a district in the administrative district of Kassel, in Hesse, Germany.

It is bordered by the following counties: Hersfeld- Rotenburg ( Hesse), Wartburg district and county Schmalkalden- Meiningen ( Thuringia), Rhön- grave field and Bad Kissingen ( Bavaria ) and Main- Kinzig-Kreis and Vogelsberg (Hessen).

Geography

The core area of ​​the district includes the so-called Fulda Fulda basin. To the east of the low mountain range of the High Rhön with Hesse's highest mountain, the water dome. To the west of the county area are still in the foothills of the Vogelsberg mountains. The name derives from the circle is the Fulda River and the county town of Fulda.

History

The circle Fulda was created in 1821 after the Duchy of Fulda had come in 1816 to the electorate of Hesse and was divided into four districts. In 1866, the Electorate of Hesse and parts of Lower Franconia were annexed by Prussia, the area of the electorate to the new Region of Kassel the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau was. The current county area was divided into the districts Fulda, Gersfeld and Hünfeld, the circle Gersfeld had been formed out of the former Bavarian district office Gersfeld.

The district of Fulda is a traditional stronghold of the CDU. This status is also reflected in the composition of the current County Council.

Since 1 February 2006, Bernd Woide is (CDU ) District Administrator of Fulda. His last re-election took place on 4 September 2011, with a vote share of 72.1 per cent with a turnout of 30.5 percent.
