The Fulton Township is one of 22 townships in Whiteside County in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the Fulton Township had 4251 inhabitants.
Geography
The Fulton Township is located in northwestern Illinois, on the east bank of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. The border with Wisconsin is located about 80 km north.
The Fulton Township is located at 41 ° 52'59 " north latitude and 90 ° 08'04 " west longitude and extends over 55.4 km ², spread to 44.8 km ² land and 10.6 km ² water surface.
The Fulton Township is located in the extreme northwest of the Whiteside County and is bordered to the north by the Carroll County. On the opposite bank of the Mississippi Clinton County is located in Iowa. Within the Whiteside County borders the Fulton Township on the east by the Ustick Township, to the southeast by the Union Grove Township, and on the south by the Garden Plain Township.
Traffic
The oldest road is actually the Mississippi, on which an important part of the flow of goods transported through the center of the USA today. The river is navigable for large barges held by dams, one of which with Lock and Dam No. 13 a between the Fulton Township and the opposite shore in Iowa is located.
By Fulton Township runs along the Mississippi the Illinois section of the Great River Road forming Illinois State Route 84 leads here through the Southeast Township, a portion of U.S. Highway 30, all other roads are County Roads or more subordinate and partly unpaved driveways.
By Fulton Township runs north -south railway line BNSF Railway. Through the southern part of the Township leads a line of the Union Pacific Railroad which runs from Chicago to the west.
The nearest major airport is around 70 km south-west of the township situated Quad City International Airport.
