Garry Monahan

Garry Michael Monahan ( born October 20, 1946 in Barrie, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( center ), who from 1967 to 1979 for the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League played.

Career

As with the NHL Amateur Draft 1963 talents were selected by the NHL teams for the first time, the Montreal Canadiens took the opportunity of the first law to the 16 -year-old Monahan select. Only a year later he moved to the Peterborough Petes junior in the OHA. In his third and last year he played with, among others, Billy Harris, who should be selected nine years after him at the NHL Amateur Draft 1972 first.

In the 1967/68 season he made his debut with the Canadiens, but played mostly in the Central Professional Hockey League with the Houston Apollos. Together with Jacques Lemaire, he fought to the last available space in the very strong field squad Montreal. After a year he had spent mostly in the American Hockey League with the Cleveland Barons, he joined in a swap deal which brought Pete Mahovlich to Montreal, to the Detroit Red Wings. Here he made it to the regulars, but was passed in February to the end of the season 1969/70 on the Los Angeles Kings. After the season brought him a trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In turn, Bob Pulford moved to Los Angeles.

In a series with Dave Keon he developed into a solid, hard-working, defensive attacker. He played four years with the Leafs. After just one game in the season 1974/75 he was transferred to the Vancouver Canucks. Here he had three successful years, but was sent to the 1978 CHL Tulsa Oilers Farmtam to. He returned in the summer to the Maple Leafs, for whom he played his last season in the NHL.

Following his NHL career, he played three years for the Seibu Tetsudo Tokyo in Japan and ended his active career in 1982.
