Geneuille

Geneuille is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Geneuille is located at 220 m, about 11 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the southern edge of the Ognon valley across from Bussières, amid the rolling countryside in the extreme northwest of the Doubs.

The area of ​​6.45 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Ognon Valley. The northern boundary runs along the Ognon as it flows with several turns through a 1.5 -km-wide, flat Talniederung. From the river, the municipality's area extends south across the wide, formerly marshy flood plain to the adjacent gently undulating landscape. This is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. In the southwest there are the vast forest area of Grand Bois and the fishing lake Etang de Lanrêtre. On the south of the municipality floor extends to the foot of the height of Châtillon -le- Duc. Here the highest elevation of Geneuille is achieved with 278 m.

Neighboring communities of Geneuille are Bussières in the north, Châtillon -le- Duc in the east, Auxon -Dessus in the south and Cussey -sur- l'Ognon in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Geneuille formed its own government, which was under the suzerainty of the cathedral chapter of Besançon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In the 19th century, hydropower Ognon for the operation of a paper mill has been used. Today Geneuille part of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de la Dame Blanche.

Attractions

The village church of Geneuille was built in the 18th century in classical style. Geneuille has two castles from the 19th century, the Château de la Dame Blanche (now used as a hotel ) and the Château Beneyton.

Population

With 1361 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Geneuille one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased slightly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 or 559 persons were counted ), a striking population growth has been recorded since the early 1970s. Since then emerged on the outskirts numerous single-family homes, and the population has quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure
