Vaire-le-Petit

Vaire -le- Petit is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vaire -le- Petit is situated on 256 m, about 10 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Doubs Valley on the northern side of the river right across from Vaire, on the northwestern edge of the Jura, at the northern foot of the Côte.

The area of ​​1.26 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, which flows here through an approximately 1.5 kilometers wide, flat Talniederung to the west and at the same time forms the waterways of the Rhine- Rhône canal. Vaire -le- Petit is located within a former flung northward meander curve. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward into the broad alluvial plain and northeast on the western section of the Montagne Notre-Dame d' Aigremont. Here the highest elevation of Vaire -le- Petit is achieved with 378 m.

Neighboring communities of Vaire -le- Petit are Amagney in the north, Deluz in the east, Vaire - Arcier in the south and Novillars in the West.

History

At La Montoillotte Stone Age tools were found, demonstrating that the area of Vaire -le- Petit was already inhabited during the Mousterian ( Middle Palaeolithic ). In addition, fragments of pottery were discovered from the Bronze Age and Gallo- Roman tombs.

Population

With 205 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vaire -le- Petit is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 80 and 150 people, a significant population growth was recorded especially during the 1950s. Since then, the population remained at a relatively constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Vaire -le- Petit was to the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and fisheries embossed village. Since the 17th century there was a brickyard (1914 was closed down ). In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including companies in the precision engineering and the car dealer.
