Battenans-les-Mines

Battenans -les -Mines is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Battenans -les -Mines is located at 300 m, 10 km north- west of Baume- les -Dames and about 26 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a sloping hillside to the northwest of Bois des Perrières, south of the Talniederung Ognon, in the undulating countryside in the extreme northwest of the Doubs.

The area of ​​2.78 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hilly landscape between the river valleys of the Doubs and Ognon. The central part of the area is occupied by a relatively gently sloping hillside, which rises south to the wooded height of the Bois des Perrières. Here the highest elevation of Battenans -les -Mines is achieved with 404 m. Is flanked this height in the west from the valley of the Ruisseau de la Beune, to the east of a small valley with no above-ground rivers, which opens into the valley of the Crenu. However, the community area is not enough to down into the valley floor.

Neighboring communities of Battenans -les -Mines are Avilley in the north, Tallans in the east, and La Tournans Bretenière in the south and Rougemontot and Cendrey in the West.

History

Iron ore was mined at an early age Battenans. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Battenans was officially renamed in 1936 in Battenans -les -Mines. Today, the village is part of the community association Communauté de communes de la Bussière.

Population

With 59 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Battenans -les -Mines is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 100 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Battenans -les -Mines was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Avilley to La Bretenière. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 17 km. Another road connection with Cendrey.
