The Genève -Servette Hockey Club is a Swiss ice hockey club from Geneva who plays in the National League A. It was founded in 1905 and plays its home matches at the Vernets Stadium. Since 2001, the club is run as a joint stock company.

Despite the almost identical name, the club has since 1963 no financial or legal connections more to football club FC Servette Genève. Rather, he was a part of the American Anschutz group, which also includes the Polar Bears Berlin, the Hamburg Freezers, Hammarby Hockey and the Los Angeles Kings belong. Meanwhile, the club is owned by the Canadian Chris McSorley.

Beginning of the 1990s played Servette in the first league and entered the 1995/96 season out on the then NLB. History

Around 1905, the Geneva Hockey Club was founded as a hockey section of the football club Servette FC Genève from an active hockey player of the HC Florissant. Until the 1950s, the home games were played on natural as well as in Lausanne and L' Abbaye before on 21 November 1954, the first games on artificial ground, in the " Pavillon des Sports", took place. The first match was played against Urania Genève Sport, who also took advantage of this sports facility for their games. 1956 was achieved with a 2-1 win away against the EHC Winterthur Veltheim from the first-time participation in the National League B, and two years later the opening of the art ice rink " Les Vernet " in which henceforth held the home games.

In the following season, the HC Genève 1959 won for the first time the Swiss Cup with a win against the Young Sprinters Hockey Club. This game saw 11,820 fans, which was the largest backdrop of a hockey game in Geneva. Four years later, both teams met in the final each other again, but this time the team kept the upper hand from Neuchâtel. 1963 merged the two teams Servette Geneva and UGS Genève -Servette HC today that has been independently for Servette FC Genève. After the merger, the club champion of the National League was B and rose to the National League A. During the NHL lockout in 2005, the Confederates wanted to benefit from the commitment of North American players, but initially did not receive approval by the Anschutz group. This non-release was later overturned due to injury problems and so changed Derek Armstrong of the Los Angeles Kings, Geoff Sanderson of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Serge Aubin of the Atlanta Thrashers briefly the jersey in favor of Geneva.

The season 2005/ 06 was not satisfactory from the clubs point of view, as before was only the eleventh place, and thus the transition into the playout after the preliminary round. A year later the team but came back into the quarterfinals of the playoffs and 2007/ 08 was the biggest success in club history by reaching the play-off finals celebrated. The 2008 /09 joined the club from the early elimination in the playoff quarterfinals. In the 2009/10 season reached the playoff final Servette, but failed in the seventh game away against SC Bern, after they had previously made ​​up a 1:3 residue in the best- of-seven series.

Home of the Genève -Servette HC since 1958 Vernets. The original capacity of 11,500 seats, fell upon conversion of 1992 to 9,000 spectators.
