Gerbépal

Gerbépal is a commune in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges, founded the Canton Corcieux and to the 2002 Local Government Association, Val de nine.

Geography

The 567 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring Vosges community Gerbépal is located on the top nine, a tributary of the Vologne, between the towns of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges and Gerardmer. The municipal area extends from the Col du ceiling (620 m, the transition to the valley of the Meurthe ) in the north to the Col de Martimpré ( 796 m, the transition to the Valley of the Vologne ) in the south for a distance of ten kilometers.

For the 19.18 km ² large municipality includes the districts Aux Furneaux, La Basse de Martimpré, Les Trexons and Martimpré.

Neighboring communities of Gerbépal are Anould in the north, Ban -sur- Meurthe- Clefcy to the east, La Bresse to the south, Gerardmer in the southwest, Arrentès -de- Corcieux Corcieux in the west and the northwest.

History

1378 the village was first mentioned as Gerbepaltz. It was at this time from the hamlets Ruxurieux and Vichibure and was part of the rule Martimprey that was associated with the Bailliage of Bruyeres.

Near the chapel in the district Martimpré was a castle dating back to 1532. Was destroyed in 1635 during the Thirty Years' War, the ruins demolished in 1830. Instead of the castle came two houses, one of which was burned down in 1944 by German troops.

Economy and infrastructure

In the community Gerbépal are eight farms in full - or part-time working. In addition to tourism and small businesses (bakery, car repair, candle making ) the handicraft and tourism plays an increasingly important role. In the north of the church, in front of the Col du ceiling, there is a go-kart track.

Transport links

The main street in the town connects as a department road D 8 Gerbépal with the city and Gerardmer ( about Anould ) with the sub-prefecture of Saint- Dié -des- Vosges. The D 86 leads from Gerbépal in the small town Corcieux.

Personalities

From Gerbépal comes Maurice Lemaire (1895-1979), who held various ministerial posts in the French government 1953-1957.
