Schynige plate

Gündlischwand is a municipality in the Interlaken- Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Gündlischwand located in the Bernese Oberland in the Alps to the Black Lütschinen. The neighboring communities of north clockwise are starting Iseltwald, Lutschental, Lauterbrunnen, Gsteigwiler and Bönigen. In the upper part of the municipality of the Sägistal, Axalp is with a small lake and the mountain Sägissa ( 2'465 m above sea level. M. ). On the territory of the municipality is also the station Schynige plate, end plate Schynige web.

The district Zweilütschinen is due to the same station the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB ) is not known when the village Gündlischwand.

Population

History

1331 carried the village its name Gundlisswant. The Augustinian priory Interlaken was the owner and possessed the property and rights of the settlement. After secularization of the place in 1528 fell to Bern and was managed by the bailiwick of Interlaken. Zweilütschinen, a district of Gündlischwand was from 1580 to bridges. Ideally located at the confluence of the White and Black Lütschinen.

From drawing to a close the 16th century until 1715, the iron ore extracted in the rear Lauterbrunnen valley was smelted in the so-called Schmelziwald. Remains of this plant, which had a blast furnace, a hammer mill, a foundry, a charcoal, a mill and a tavern are still preserved. The construction of the Bernese Oberland Railways 1890, the village is connected to the rail network.

Gündlischwand belongs to the parish Gsteig near Interlaken.
