Harscheid

Harscheid is a municipality in the district of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Adenau.

History

The exact time of origin of Harscheid is unknown. The first written reference 1501.

Students in Harscheid had until 1961 due to lack of school buildings attend the school in debt. This condition was terminated after a new school in Harscheid completion. Through the education reform 1971/72 but it was disbanded; since the school in Antweiler is responsible for the primary school children from Harscheid. Most of the remaining students are registered to Adenauer schools. The former school building Harscheids served many years as a vacation home. In 2008, the building passed into private ownership and is now used as a private residence.

Parish council

The local council in Harscheid consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

1754 a chapel was built in honor of St. Donatus and Jodokus. The interior of the chapel houses a Baroque altar and ten banks in the 18th century. In a niche, which is flanked by two twisted columns, there is a wooden figure of St. Jodok. 1838 a new bell was installed in 1919 again replaced by another. 1857 new windows were installed. At the beginning of 1970, the roof of the chapel was renewed.
