Waldorf, Rhineland-Palatinate

Waldorf is a municipality in the district of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bad Breisig.

Geography

Waldorf is located in Vinxtbachtal and just outside the volcano park Brohltal between Sinzig and Niederzissen, below the extinct volcano Bausenberg. At Waldorf include residential places Adam mill, Marie height and Ockenfelsmühle.

History

Studies of the historian Eugen Ewig showed that the history of the site is to be evidenced by 646 AD. The place was first mentioned in a deed dated 1 June 960 detectable in a donation of Merovingian king Sigebert III. ( 630-656 ) was described in favor of the Abbey of St. Martin at Metz. The name was first mentioned as Walendorp ( = village of whales ) in the year 1033.
