Wershofen

Wershofen is a municipality in the district of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Adenau.

Geography

Wershofen located in Ahrgebirge. The municipality also includes the residential places Daubiansmühle, Kottenbornerhof, Laufenbacherhof (zip code 53533 ) and Wennefeldermühle.

History

It was first mentioned in 1395 and in 1995 celebrated its 600th anniversary. By the end of the 18th century Wershofen was part of the duchy of Arenberg.

In 1794, French revolutionary troops had occupied the left bank of the Rhine. Under the French administration Wershofen belonged to the Canton Adenau, who was assigned to the Rhine-Moselle department. Under the contracts at the Congress of Vienna contracts the region, thus Wershofen, 1815 came to the Kingdom of Prussia. Wershofen belonged from 1816 to the mayoralty Aremberg in a circle Adenau, the part of the district of Coblenz and from 1822 to the Rhine Province was.

Until 1839 included the then independent municipalities Eichenbach and Ohlenhard to Wershofen.

1932, the county Adenau was dissolved and the community Wershofen assigned to the district of Ahrweiler. Since 1946, the community belongs to the state of Rhineland -Palatinate and since 1970 the municipality Adenau.
