Henry F. Lippitt

Henry Frederick Lippitt ( born October 12, 1856 in Providence, Rhode Iceland, † December 28, 1933 ibid ) was an American politician ( Republican), who represented the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. Senate.

Henry F. Lippitt comes from a family that produced many other politicians. His father was Henry Lippitt 1875-1877 Governor of Rhode Iceland, whose brother Charles held that post from 1895 to 1897. His great- nephew John Chafee, Navy Secretary from 1969 to 1972, was from 1963 to 1969 also governor of the state, and from 1976 to 1999 U.S. Senator for Rhode Iceland; in this office then followed him to his son Lincoln Chafee. Even Henry F. Lippitts own son Frederick became politically active as a member of the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland.

Lippitt attended as a boy private schools and then Brown University, where he graduated in 1878. He went after the cotton industry a, acted as director of a bank and several insurance companies, and was Vice President of the Savings Bank ( Savings Bank) of Providence. From 1888 to 1889 he belonged to the staff of Governor Royal C. Taft at the rank of Colonel. Also still in 1889, he became president of the cotton producers' association of New England.

1910 Henry Lippitt was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he held his seat as a Republican March 4, 1911 to March 3, 1917 the re-election he failed in 1916. During his time in the Senate he was chairman of the Committee on the issues of the Ministry of Agriculture. After the end of his political career, he returned to the textile industry.
