Lincoln Chafee

Lincoln Davenport Chafee ( born March 26, 1953 in Warwick, Rhode Iceland ) is an American politician. Since January 2011 he has served as Governor of the U.S. state of Rhode Iceland. He was a member of the Republican Party, which he left in 2007. Since 29 May 2013, is a member of the Democratic Party.

Life

Chafee studied at Brown University, where he received his degree in 1975. In 1985 he was a delegate to the Constituent Assembly of Rhode Iceland. 1992-1999 practiced Chafee from the office of mayor of his home town of Warwick. Previously, he had already been there from 1986 to 1992 Member of the City Council. Chafee resigned from office as mayor when he had been appointed on 2 November 1999 by Governor Lincoln Almond to occupy the vacant seat of his late father John Chafee in the U.S. Senate.
