Jean Robic

Jean Robic ( born June 10, 1921 in Condé- les- Vouziers; † October 6, 1980 in Claye -Souilly ) was a French cyclist.

The peak of his cycling career was undoubtedly the overall victory in the Tour de France 1947. Robic is the first Tour de France winner after the Second World War. The Breton had not worn the yellow jersey throughout the race. It was only on the last stage, 140 kilometers from Paris, he launched the decisive attack against Pierre Brambilla and won thus surprising the tour. Robic was since that day with Pierre Brambilla in deep dispute. Normally with larger tours applies the unwritten law, during the last stage no longer to attack in order to improve overall. It was not until 33 years later, the two reconciled. On the way home that day Robic caused his car in an accident by collided with a truck. Robic was killed instantly

For a long time after that enthused the French people from this Tour victory, and especially this last stage - one of the most exciting stages in the history of the Tour de France. Robic won the first cyclocross World Cup in Paris in 1950.
