Kathleen Nord

Kathleen Nord ( born December 26, 1965 in Magdeburg ) is a German former swimmer who competed for East Germany.

Career

It started as a swimmer for the SC Magdeburg. Its strengths were the distances 200 m and 400 m medley and 200m butterfly. Early in her career, she was successful in the position distances and in 1983 and 1985 European champion and 1986 World Champion in this swimming style. After some sporting disappointments, she moved to the butterfly style and could again be 1987 and 1989 European champion. She made her biggest success at the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul in 1988 with the Olympic title over 200m butterfly. In 1990, she ended her career.

After the reunion, she emigrated to the U.S. and was a trainer at the Florida Gold Coast Swimming Club in Palm Beach. She also graduated with moderate success between 1995 and 1996 a few small meetings on the short track.

1986 and 1988 Kathleen North was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.
