Keith Joseph Millard ( born March 18, 1962 in Pleasanton, California) is an American former American football player. He played as a defensive tackle and defensive end, among others in the National Football League ( NFL ) for the Minnesota Vikings.

Playing career

College career

Keith Millard attended high school, where he played as a linebacker and tight end American football in his hometown. From 1980 to 1983 he studied at Washington State University, where he played for the Washington State Cougars Football. Millard was used in his first year as a tight end in the offense of the team and then moved to the Defense, where he played as a defensive tackle. In 1981 he played with his team in the Holiday Bowl. The game against the Brigham Young University was lost with 38:36. In his senior year he was elected to the selection of the Pacific -10 Conference and voted player of the defensive line in the league. From his college, he has been recognized for athletic performance three times.

Professional career

Keith Millard was drafted in 1984 by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round in 13th place. Also, the Arizona Wranglers of the United States Football League ( USFL ) were interested in signing of Millard. After he had signed contracts with the team from Arizona, he was discharged from the Wranglers to the Jacksonville Bulls. In 1985, the USFL a game operation and Millard moved to just one game year in the USFL for the Vikings, who were coached by Bud Grant. Millard ran for the Vikings along with Chris Doleman as a defensive end. He succeeded in his first game year to bring the opposing quarterback eleven times behind the line of scrimmage to case. In 1987, Millard was able to move with the team from Minnesota in the NFC Championship Game, where you though the Washington Redskins defeated with 17:10. The following year, the Vikings failed in the playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers with 34:9. In 1989, Millard was with his team move for the third time in the finals, but again he failed with the Vikings in the playoffs to the team from San Francisco. The game ended with 41:13 for the 49ers. Despite this defeat was the year 1989 for Millard his statistically best game round. After he had changed before the season on the position of a defensive tackle, get him this season 18 bag. Millard had to suspend 1991 season due to injury. He then moved in 1992 to the Seattle Seahawks and the same year to the Green Bay Packers. For both teams, he played only twice each in the NFL. After a last game year at the Philadelphia Eagles, he finished the 1993 season after his career.

Coaching career

After his playing career Millard was assistant coach of the 1996 football team of Fort Lewis College. Until 2000, he spent three years active before becoming an assistant coach at Menlo College in the professional sector back. About the Los Angeles Dragons from the Spring Football League ( SFL ), he joined in 2001 in the XFL for the San Francisco Demons. From 2001 to 2004 he was an assistant coach under Mike Shanahan with the Denver Broncos. In 2005 he was hired by Al Davis and was from then on worked for the Oakland Raiders. After a year as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he moved before the 2012 season as an assistant to head coach Mike Munchak of the Tennessee Titans.

Honors

Keith Millard played twice in the Pro Bowl, the final game of the best players of the season. He was again elected to the All- USFL team four times and to the All- Pro in the NFL. He is a member of the NFL 1980s All- Decade Team and the USFL All- Time Team. After his personally successful game in 1989, he was honored with election to the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The Vikings have included it in the list of the 50 best players who have ever played for this team.
