Lake Como

Lake Como ( Lake Como, Italian Lago di Como Lario, German outdated Chumer Lake ) is a good fishing lake northern Italy.

The Romans called the lake larius Lacus.

Characteristic features are the numerous small villages located right on the shore, many of whom have received their very own character to this day. Many of the often luxurious villas (among Villa Carlotta, Villa d' Este ) date from the 15th century, when the Lake Como had become rich through the sericulture and silk industry thus created. Many of these villas later moved into the rule of the nobility. During the time of Napoleon, the Vice- President of the Italian Republic (1802-1805) Francesco Melzi d' exile built the Villa Melzi. Due to the Mediterranean climate to thrive many subtropical plants such as palm trees, citrus trees, cypresses, olive trees and many more.

Geography

Lake Como, called by the locals is also Lario, 146 km ², 51 km long and max. 4.2 km wide. He is, after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore, measured at the water surface, the third largest lake in Italy. With a conditional by its characteristic shape shoreline of 170 km it exceeds the aforementioned two lakes on this point. Until 2006 it was believed that the maximum depth of Lake Como is 410 m. Shipping

Every day several boats between Como and Colico, further there are various routes between Como and Lecco or Menaggio and Como and Lecco. There is a ferry service between Varenna, Menaggio and Bellagio.

Water

Between Bellagio and Colico buzzes with activity of boaters because there prevail reliable wind conditions.
