Lawrence Maxwell, Jr.

Lawrence Maxwell Jr. ( born May 4, 1853 in Glasgow, Scotland, † February 18, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio) was an American lawyer and United States Solicitor General.

Biography

After visiting the Woodward High School in Cincinnati native of a Scottish immigrant family, Maxwell studied at the University of Michigan and acquired there in 1874 a Bachelor of Science ( BS). A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of the University of Cincinnati, he graduated from in 1875. After admission to the bar in Ohio, he was first a partner of the law firm of King, Thompson & Maxwell and then from 1884 until his death in 1927, the firm Ramsey, Maxwell & Matthews.

In April 1893 Lawrence Maxwell was appointed by U.S. President Grover Cleveland to the Solicitor General and took thus for almost two years until January 1895, the third most important office in the Justice Department of the United States true. After his retirement from government service, he took in 1896 in addition to his legal practice until 1912 also has the reputation as a professor of law at the Law School of the University of Cincinnati. Between 1909 and 1916 he was also a lecturer at the Law School of the University of Michigan.
