John K. Richards

John Kelvey Richards ( born March 15, 1856 in Ironton, Ohio; † March 1, 1909 in Cincinnati, Ohio) was an American lawyer, politician, and United States Solicitor General.

Biography

After attending school, he first studied from 1870 to 1875 at Swarthmore College and earned there a Bachelor of Arts ( AB). A subsequent study at Harvard University he graduated in 1877 with a Bachelor of Arts from another. After his admission to the bar in Ohio in 1879 he worked for a short time as a lawyer before he was 1882-1882 Prosecutors ( Prosecuting Attorney ) in Lawrence County. After a new career as a lawyer, he was 1885-1889 Solicitor city of his birth Ironton.

Richards, who was a member of the Republican Party, was during the 8th parliamentary term 1890-1892 to the Senate of Ohio as a member. Subsequently, he served as Attorney General 1892-1896 Attorney General of the state government of Ohio. In July 1897, U.S. President William McKinley appointed him Solicitor General. Thus John Richards took until March 1903, the third highest function in the Ministry of Justice of the United States.

Then his vocation was to be a judge on the 6th United States Court of Appeals based in Cincinnati. This federal appeals court, he belonged to until his death.
