Rex E. Lee

Rex Edwin Lee ( born February 27, 1935 in Los Angeles, California ( according to other sources: St. Johns, Arizona ), † 11 March 1996 in Provo, Utah) was an American lawyer and United States Solicitor General.

Biography

After school, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo and acquired there in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A subsequent post-graduate studies at the Law School of the University of Chicago, he graduated from in 1963. After his admission to the bar in the state of Utah, he was secretary until 1964 ( Clerk ) by Byron White, a associate judge (Associate Justice) of the Supreme Court of the United States.

He then went to 1972 as an attorney in the law firm Jennings, Strouss & Salmon a, whose partner he became later. In 1975 he joined the staff in the Ministry of Justice of the United States and was there as Asstistent of the Attorney General until 1976 Head of the Department of Civil Law. In August 1981, the Republican Lee of U.S. President Ronald Reagan was appointed Solicitor General and took third place this within the Ministry of Justice until June 1985.

After his retirement from government service, he was, until his death in 1996 partner of Sidley Austin, a law firm with 1,600 lawyers and is based in Chicago. In addition, he served between 1989 and 1995 as president of Brigham Young University. In addition, Lee was temporarily dean of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. He died of cancer.

His son, born in 1971, Mike also suggested a legal career. In November 2010 he was elected as a Republican candidate for the state of Utah in the U.S. Senate.
