William L. Frierson

William Little Frierson ( born September 3, 1868 in Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tennessee, † May 25 1953 in Chattanooga, Tennessee ) was an American politician, lawyer and United States Solicitor General.

Biography

After school he studied at the Southern Presbyterian University in Clarksville and in 1887 earned a Bachelor of Arts (AB). After his admission to the bar in Tennessee in 1889, he worked as a lawyer. Between 1905 and 1907 he was mayor of Chattanooga and later 1912-1915 City Prosecutor. In 1916, he was for some time Special Judge (Special Justice) of the Supreme Court of Tennessee (Tennessee State Supreme Court ).

In 1917 he joined the staff in the Ministry of Justice of the United States and was initially to 1920 Assistant to the U.S. Attorney General. In June 1920 he was appointed by President Woodrow Wilson to the Solicitor General and thus took up in June 1921 for one year to third place within the U.S. Department of Justice a.

After his retirement from government service, he became a partner in the law firm of Williams & Frierson and was also from 1922 to 1923 President of the Bar Association of Tennessee (Tennessee Bar Association).
