Lizzano in Belvedere

Lizzano in Belvedere is a municipality with 2314 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Bologna in the Italian region Emilia -Romagna. The town is located 52 km southwest of Bologna and also 52 km northwest of Florence.

Geography

Lizzano in Belvedere is located in the northern Apennines on a plateau below the Monte Pizzo on the edge of the Natural Park of Corno alle Scale, whose seat is in Lizzano. This scenic location has ( German: Air ) place the nickname in Belvedere provided to distinguish him from other places with the same name.

Lizzano is also a popular winter sports resort.

Besides Lizzano the municipality consists of the villages of La Ca ', ferns, Gabba, Madonna dell'Acero, Monteacuto, Pianaccio, Poggiolforato, Rocca Corneta and Vidiciatico.

History

The area of Lizzano in Belvedere is continuously inhabited since the Stone Age, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Exarchate of Ravenna, which was conquered by the Lombard king Aistulf 751. Aistulf gave the area of Lizzano to the abbey of Nonantola. In the deed of gift of 753 first appeared on the name Massa Lizano. As a result Lizzano came to the Free Commune of Bologna, the goal for the location to a frontier fortress against the Tuscany. 1227 Castello di Belvedere was built of which today only ruins are left. Together with Bologna came Lizzano 1506 the Papal States.

During World War II Lizzano and its surroundings was marked by the struggle between partisans of the Resistance and the German Wehrmacht.

  • On the first weekend in October, the feast of truffle finds the Tartufesta instead.

Sons and daughters of the town

  • Enzo Biagi (* 1920 in Pianaccio, † 2007 in Milan ), the well-known journalist and television presenter was buried on 8 November 2007 at the cemetery in the district Pianaccio.
  • Nello Fontana ( born June 12, 1937 in Lizzano, † November 23, 2012 in Cologne) founded as an Italian emigrant from Cologne 1970, the " International Choir encounter" between the cities Lizzano (it), Cologne (de), Wattignies (fr) and Broadstairs ( uk), the matter was held regularly in the two-to three-year distance.
