Monghidoro

The community Monghidoro is located on the main road to Futapass and is the last municipality in the province of Bologna Savena Valley, 41 kilometers south of Bologna in Italy. It has 3843 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). Through the municipal area of ​​the river Idice flows.

History

The story Monghidoros goes back at least as to the location name at the time of the Ostrogoths, the Byzantines, the Lombards and their looting in Italy. Approximately thirteen centuries ago here settled Gothic tribes. The place name, by later generations as Mons Gothorum called ( = mountain of the Goths ), therefore can be explained as Monghidoro.

1246 the name of the castle or the Freiburg in Scaricalasino was changed (the meaning of this name is relieves the donkey ). It was renamed because the pack animals had to rest here because of the slope between Roncastaldo and the village.
