Budrio

Budrio ( German outdated: Heunburg ) is a town with 18 172 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Bologna. The town lies on the river Idice.

History

Ds area around Budrio was a Roman colony, were settled in the former legionnaires. Because aufgefundener around remnants is believed that the original city core from the 10th century came from. The San Lorenzo church existed in the year 1146. During the 14th century it was rebuilt by Cardinal Gil de Albornoz as a castle, from the two large towers ( 1376 ) can still be seen.

The city wall of the two towers are well preserved, dates from the 17th century. In Budrio Giuseppe Barilli was born in 1812, who was appointed by the nickname Quirico Filopanti 1860 as professor of water mechanics at the University of Bologna. He is also known by the discovery of the time zones.

Public institutions

Budrio has a remarkable restored city theater, a city museum with art gallery, a public bath, two secondary schools and a nursing home for disabled people.

Trade

Budrio is world famous for the production of special prostheses / prosthetic lower leg. Also known is the processing of potatoes. On the outskirts there is a large commercial area.

Attractions

Very worth seeing is the Bentivoglio Palace (16th century) and Villa Ranuzzi Cospi in the district Bagnarola.

Others

Budrio is also known for the new form of Ocarina, a signal generated by Antonio Donati musical instrument.
