Lurøy

Lurøy is a Norwegian municipality with about 2,000 inhabitants. The center of the municipality is the same place Lurøy.

The municipality is situated just south of the Arctic Circle on the western side of the mountain Saltfjell. In the municipality there are a total of 1372 small and larger islands. The total area of ​​the municipality is 1,300 km ², with only 264 km ² of it is land area, the rest is sea surface. 60 % of the population live on islands and about 40 % on the mainland. The number of residents is steadily declining. Between 1994 and 2004 the number of inhabitants has decreased by 8.5 %.
