Maciej Nowicki

Maciej Nowicki Władysław ( [ matɕɛj vwadɨswaf nɔv ʲ ITSK ʲ i], born September 28, 1941 in Warsaw) is a Polish politician and environmentalist. From November 16, 2007 until December 8, 2009, the non-party Nowicki Polish Minister of Environmental Protection in the cabinet of Donald Tusk.

Life

Nowicki concluded in 1964, graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology ( Politechnika Warszawska ). 1964 to 1970 he was at the Polska Akademia Nauk ( Polish Academy of Sciences) worked. Then Nowicki worked as a lecturer until 1986 at the University of Warsaw. There he received his doctorate in 1972 and four years later he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the protection of the atmosphere at the University of Warsaw. The title of professor, he may wear since 1992.

1991 Nowicki was appointed Minister of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry under Lech Walesa, the year before he was Vice Minister of the Environment. In 1992, he left his ministerial posts and was Chairman of the Ekofundusz, a foundation that funds from foreign debt of Poland adopted environmental measures. In 1994 he was appointed deputy chairman of the UN Commission on Environmental Development, 1997 as Advisor to the Secretary General of the OECD.

He became the first foreign winners with the Environmental Award of the Federal Environmental Foundation for Lifetime Achievement in 1996. With the prize money of 250,000 euros, he founded the Nowicki Foundation, the talented Polish graduates of the Environmental Protection area residencies in Germany possible. 1996-2007 160 scholarships were awarded.

In August 2007, he handed over the chairmanship of the Ekofundusz, he was appointed Minister of Environmental Protection on November 16, 2007.

On 8 December 2009, a day after the opening of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in which he participated, he submitted his resignation as Minister of the Environment. It is speculated that it was due to a dispute over the use of funds from the sale of emission rights trading. Maciej Nowicki she wanted to use his deputy Stanisław Gawlowski and Donald Tusk for environmental protection. He was succeeded in February 2010 Andrzej Kraszewski.

Nowicki is married and has two children.

Awards

In 1996 he received the Environmental Award of the DBU. In addition, he was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
